Welcome to the new website for the Court of King's Bench of Alberta (“the Court”). I am honoured to bring this greeting on behalf of all members of the Court, who work tirelessly to facilitate access to justice within current resource constraints.
The Court is constituted by the Court of King's Bench Act and conducts criminal matters, civil proceedings (including family and surrogate proceedings) and the judicial review of government and tribunal action in Alberta. The Court hears hundreds of matters each month in eleven Judicial Centres and two Circuit Points throughout Alberta. The Court is to be comprised of: a Chief Justice, an Associate Chief Justice, seventy-four Justices, a number of Supernumerary (half-time) Justices and Applications Judges. In addition, the Court has a number of dedicated judicial staff members comprised of: Legal Officers, Court Coordinators and Judicial and other Assistants.
Our Court’s vision is: A leader in innovative, responsible and accessible justice. This website is one example of our approach to providing access to justice through relevant and timely information.
One of the main goals of this project was to create a user-friendly site with accessibility on any device. In preparing for the launch of this website we re-formatted, re-organized and updated existing content; removed obsolete content; and added new content, including links for referrals to other information and service providers that may be beneficial to members of the public with a legal issue, and to litigants, lawyers and staff within the justice system. New content will continue to be developed and added over the coming months.
This website is the product of the efforts of our King's Bench Justices, Applications Judges and Judicial Staff. We trust you will find what you are looking for.
J’aimerais vous souhaiter la bienvenue au nouveau site de la Cour du Banc du Roi de l’Alberta (« la Cour »). J’ai l’honneur de vous accueillir au nom de tous les membres de la Cour. Nous travaillons tous très fort en vue de faciliter l’accès à la justice dans le contexte actuel de ressources restreintes.
La Cour est constituée en vertu de la Court of King's Bench Act. Elle a compétence en matières criminelle, civile (y compris en droit de la famille et droit successoral), ainsi qu’en révision judiciaire des actions du gouvernement et des tribunaux administratifs en Alberta. La Cour siège dans onze circonscriptions judiciaires à travers la province, ainsi que dans deux lieux de circuit. Chaque mois, elle entend des centaines d’affaires. La Cour est composée comme suit : la juge en chef, le juge en chef adjoint, soixante-quatorze juges puînés, ainsi qu’un certain nombre de juges surnuméraires (à mi-temps) et de juges des requêtes. De plus, la Cour est dotée de son propre personnel composé de juristes, de coordonnateurs judiciaires, d’assistants juridiques et autres.
L’énoncé de vision de la Cour est le suivant : Un chef de file en matière de justice innovatrice, responsable et accessible. Ce site Web n’est qu’un exemple de nos efforts visant la promotion de l’accès à la justice par la fourniture des informations pertinentes et opportunes.
Le projet de refonte du site Web visait en partie la création d’un site efficace et facile à utiliser sur tous types d’appareils. La préparation du lancement de ce site Web nous a menés à reformater, réorganiser et mettre à jour les informations. Le contenu désuet a été retiré et du nouveau contenu a été ajouté, incluant des liens vers des informations et services externes qui peuvent être utiles aux membres du public ayant des questions d’ordre juridique, ainsi qu’aux parties, avocats et membres du personnel du système judiciaire. Du nouveau contenu sera ajouté et évoluera au cours des mois à venir.
